Donate or Join using PayPal! It's safe and secure. Just click here!! Note - our official website developer will have a cleaner donation button etc. when www.mastocytosis.ca goes live (which should be soon we hope - not her fault, we all just kept getting sick and holding her up!) If anyone has trouble with that link, and wants to find us directly on PayPal, search for Mastocytosis Society Canada. If that doesn't work, try MASTOCANADA. You should be able to find us there. It goes directly into our bank account at Royal Bank of Canada. Alternatively, you can deposit into our account at any RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) branch. Contact us for details on how to do that by emailing info@mastocytosis.ca If you have difficulty with any of this, please don't hesitate to contact us so we can help. And if you have any questions, fundraising initiatives we can help you with, etc., let us know. !

I received an email for annual subscription inviting to post a cheque and send it to the address below:
Mastocytosis Society Canada c/o Shawna Lechner-Rumpel, President 4305 Preston Crescent, Regina, SK S4X 0C9
I just wanted to confirm on this forum the information is correct. I just found it suspicious that the return email address was stephen.monty@xplornet.ca and not something from @mastocytosis.ca.
Also, can we renew subscription simply by making a donation?

Hi Mom, Yes it's legit Stephen Monty is our secretary and he's a retired lawyer too. I consider him a co-founder of MSC as he was our lawyer (pre-retirement, he's not our lawyer anymore but sticks with us!) for that entire process and spent hundreds of hours with me getting that done for free for us. He's more comfortable using his own email so he sends things from there. Good idea to check though and i'm glad you asked. When I stepped down as President and Shawna took over for me, we decided to move head office officially too. So that is her address. Corporations Canada is in the midst of making this change officially in records for MSC. Memberships give you voting rights and a say in how MSC is run and managed. You can make a donation instead but I'm not clear on how they're handling that now. When I was doing it, if people donated say $30 (membership fee is $25), I automatically gave them member status and put the other $5.00 as a donation. If you don't want to be an official member and just purely donate, that's totally okay. Put a notation on your cheque or PayPal remittance if it's donation or membership or a mix of the two. Whatever you prefer is fine :-) Thanks Mom.

Hey Carrie
Quick question - and if I looked through the entire board I am sure I would find the answer to my question - aside from day to day expenses are you fundraising for any particular cause and what is your goal?
With thanks, Jaana

With thanks, Jaana Hi Jaana, Great questions! We fundraise to advance education in Canada to help patients, physicians and caregivers who are dealing with these disorders. Some immediate main goals are:- National Conference in Canada to bring physicians and patients together for purposes stated above Cover costs to facilitate regular communication and learning between physicians helping MSC, to connect patients (webinars, conference calls for support meetings, etc.) Dream goal:- help cover costs of medications and supplements for patients of all ages in Canada. Many have no insurance or are on fixed disability income supports.

Hello Carrie
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. But as always, I can come up with more questions....lol. Charity? Tax receipt? And do you do for national or local fundraising? And if so what campaigns do you run as a society? And if one was to do local fundraising do you have procedures/regulations for people to adhere to? Right to use the logo and or the Society's name? Is there a manual or applications to fill out? Lol.
I know you have your plate full but, I am thinking I would like to get involved in doing some local fundraising in Alberta/Western Canada for two reasons: a) to raise money for the Society and b) to raise awareness on the disease.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks, Jaana

Hi Jaana We are registered and incorporated as a national non-profit organization in Canada. Our application for charitable status has been submitted to the federal government; we're just waiting to hear back from them. Currently, we are unable to issue tax receipts for donations. For your other questions, is it okay if you contact Shawna for those? I've got my hands full with my health issues and managing support and websites for MSC. Email Shawna at info@mastocytosis.ca We appreciate your initiative and support. This all sounds wonderful to me. !! Hello Carrie Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.
