Congratulations Fiona, you have been nominated for Mom of the Year.
Fiona, your daughter Jadsia thinks you're an incredible Mom. That's why they nominated you for the Walmart Mom of the Year Award.

Fiona:- "The judging for this thing is based on a panel. They read your family nomination blurb and then the comments of your friends, family and community that comment on the page....so PLEASE go and, I guess, say nice things about me and how I'm nice/good to you, your family, community, the world and what kind of Mom I am...so they can judge me. And click "like".
Please have ALL your Facebook friends comment too. I am in this to win in for Masto. Canada!!!

Thanks,
Fiona"
If you don't know Fiona, I can tell you some things to help you understand how incredible she is.
Fiona was hit with this illness in a severe form almost from day one of it manifesting few short years ago. If I recall correctly, she has suffered 96 episodes of anaphylaxis which brought her to brink of death. In one instance, she did die and they brought her back thank goodness. Fiona is only in her 30's. She has had a heart attack due to needing so much epinephrine to save her from anaphylaxis. She reacts to nearly everything from latex to scents, smells, odors, temperatures, fabrics, soaps, dyes, food, medications and on and on. She is restricted to remaining in her home most of the time as nearly everything in the outside world triggers her. Even attending doctor's appointments is dangerous for her - if there is carpet, a scent, temperature extreme, just the time it takes to get to the doctor's office, etc.
Despite all of this and Fiona existing in a literal daily battle to stay alive, she is a loving, wise, supportive wife and mother. She has jumped in a lake to rescue a dog from drowning despite knowing this action would set off anaphylaxis. She has advocated for her daughter with her school, with teachers agreeing to come to Fiona's home to meet as Fiona is unable to be in the school building. She is a constant positive and wise reassuring, informed voice for numerous patients worldwide who are suffering with these disorders too. And she has many friends and family members worldwide she tries to keep in touch with. She is an artist and former first responder with a fire department. When she can't attend a fundraiser or support something her friends are doing, she makes art and/or bakes to contribute to the cause.
She sacrifices her comfort and endures pain and symptoms to support her children when they need her no matter how much she is suffering at the time. Her first thought is always others before herself.
On top of all of this, Fiona stepped up and agreed to help establish Mastocytosis Society Canada. She did it by phone & mail with all of us and continues to help and advocate for MSC and all patients, even after she had to step down due to severe illness. Fiona is still in the thick of our efforts and always taking on more or trying to. I tell her no more often than I can recall but she persists. She does this without letting go or failing in any responsibilities as a Mom and Wife. For someone so severely ill, she puts her life on the line daily to be there for her family and all of MSC (including all of you) because she can't bear to not contribute.
That's Fiona. Whether she had chosen MSC or not as one of her charities, she deserves to win Mom of the Year. So if you're on Facebook, please find the page for Mom of the Year and leave your comments in support of Fiona. And share the link and ask your friends and family to support her.
Fiona is not the only incredible Mom in the world. She knows and would be the first to name - literally, name - how many other Moms she considers Mom of the Year. We know a lot of Moms too who are as inspiring and tireless as Fiona. But Fiona is the one nominated and we know she deserves it. We hope she wins, if only for Jadsia and nothing else :-) Jadsia sees her Mom suffer daily and wants people to know how great her Mom is in her eyes. That alone, to Fiona, feels like a win
